Google is expanding Duet AI from a tool tested by thousands of companies into a generally available helper for organizations using Google Workspace. The announced features reach across meetings, documents, presentations, email and team chat, with the aim of helping people find information and prepare work through prompts.
The change also puts the AI closer to the flow of everyday workplace tasks: it can summarize content, help draft replies, and even attend a meeting on a user’s behalf. Google said interested customers could try Duet AI at no cost.
Meetings get notes, recaps and a stand-in
In Google Meet, Duet AI can capture notes, action items and video snippets while a meeting is happening. When the meeting ends, it can send attendees a summary. People who arrive late can use a “summary so far” snapshot to catch up on what they missed.
A more unusual option, “attend for me,” lets the AI join a meeting for a user, deliver that person’s message to attendees and provide a recap afterward. These tools could help people keep track of discussions when they cannot follow every meeting live.
Meet is also adding features focused on the call itself. Studio look, studio lighting and studio sound are intended to help participants look and sound their best. Dynamic tiles and face detection give meeting-room attendees their own video tile and name, while translated captions can appear in real time for 18 languages.
Workspace content can become presentation material
Duet AI can create presentations using text, charts and images based on relevant material in Google Drive and Gmail. Google described a financial analyst preparing a Q3 performance summary by asking the AI to work through Google Sheets, P&L Docs, Monthly Business Review Slides and related emails from sales leads.
The idea is to turn information already spread across workplace files and messages into a presentation draft. In Google Slides, Duet AI can also write speaker notes based on slide content. Google said AI would support real-time teleprompting in Meet as well.
Google also said it was working with organizations including Typeface and Jasper so marketers could use generative AI to create personalized content in Workspace. That extends the announced uses beyond meeting follow-ups and internal summaries to content creation.
Chat becomes a place to ask and search
Google Chat is getting a refreshed interface, new shortcuts and enhanced search, alongside a direct conversation feature with Duet AI. Users can ask about content in Gmail and Drive, request summaries of documents shared in a space, or catch up on conversations they missed.
Chat search is being rebuilt with AI-powered rankings, a new results page, improved groupings, keyword highlighting and intelligent suggestions. An AI-powered home view is designed to make work messages easier to find. For spontaneous audio conversations, users can move into huddles, which Google describes as an audio-first impromptu meeting similar to Slack’s huddles feature.
Google said Spaces and Chat would soon support up to 500,000 members. The expanded capacity and search tools point to Chat serving both as a place for large groups and as a way to retrieve relevant work conversations.
Email help and data protections
Duet AI will make Gmail’s smart replies more flexible, helping users draft longer, more personalized responses with a tap. Rather than only offering brief reply suggestions, the feature is intended to help produce fuller messages.
Because Duet AI can work with company files and email, Google addressed how that information is handled. The company said interactions with Duet AI stay within an organization, existing workplace protections remain in place, other users will not see a customer’s data, and Google does not use that data to train its models without permission.
Google said Workspace had over 3 billion users and more than 10 million paying customers. Duet AI’s general availability could therefore put these capabilities in reach of a broad audience. Pricing for smaller businesses was not finalized in the announcement; enterprise pricing was listed at $30/mo. per seat.
