Fill Forms and Track Web Changes with Firefox Smart Window

Firefox’s Smart Window beta can use selected open tabs to suggest text for online forms and monitor webpages for changes. Both features are rolling out on desktop in the US and Canada, with other countries expected in the coming months.

The features are mostly routine conveniences, with a mild surveillance lean because selected page data is sent to Gemini and webpages can be monitored over time.

Fill Forms and Track Web Changes with Firefox Smart Window

Firefox is adding two ways to use its Smart Window AI browsing experience: it can suggest text for online forms using information from selected open tabs, and it can check webpages for changes such as sales or new job listings. The features give users a way to bring together information they have already opened and keep an eye on pages over time.

Use open tabs to help complete forms

When a web form has at least four text fields, users can select “Fill from sources” to ask Smart Window for help. Firefox displays the tabs it may draw from, allowing users to choose which pages to include or leave out.

For example, Mozilla says the browser could use an online portfolio or LinkedIn page to suggest work history for a job application. Smart Window generates suggestions from the selected pages; users can decide which sources to provide before it does so.

The feature currently works with text fields on web forms. Mozilla is working on support for dropdown menus and PDFs, which are not yet included in the described functionality.

What happens to information from source pages

Mozilla says data from the pages selected as sources is shared with Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite, the model that generates the text suggestions. That means selecting tabs is also a choice about which page information is sent for this feature.

The source-selection step gives users control over which open pages Smart Window uses. Before requesting suggestions, users can review the list and deselect any tabs they do not want included.

Set a webpage to watch for updates

Smart Window can also monitor a webpage for a change the user describes. To create a task, type “/watch” in the Smart Window chat, explain what to look for, and add the webpages to monitor.

Checks can run daily or weekly, but only while Firefox is open. If the browser finds the requested change, it sends a notification through the Tasks button on the toolbar. A desktop notification is another option for people who have desktop notifications enabled.

Monitoring has a limited lifespan: Firefox pauses a task if it has not found a change after 60 days, then stops it completely after 90 days. Users looking for ongoing updates will need to account for those limits.

Availability is limited for now

The form-filling and webpage-monitoring features are rolling out to the Smart Window beta on desktop in the US and Canada. Mozilla says they will be available in other countries in the “coming months.”

For now, the update combines two distinct uses of browser context: drawing on chosen tabs to prepare text, and revisiting chosen pages to detect changes. Form suggestions are limited to text fields, while webpage checks depend on Firefox being open and the task remaining active.
