Alexa can now help with more parts of Amazon shopping, from keeping track of items to adjusting delivery details. Amazon says it has added more than 100 shopping-related capabilities to the assistant ahead of the holiday season.
Lists and subscriptions move into Alexa
Users can ask Alexa to create shopping lists, register them, check what is on them, and add or edit items. The changes give people a way to handle list updates through the assistant instead of managing each change separately.
Subscription management is also part of the update. For example, a user could ask Alexa to change an item’s delivery schedule from every month to every three months. The example shows how a request can adjust an existing subscription cadence.
Delivery details and account questions
Alexa can also help edit delivery instructions. Users may request an address change or add details about where a delivery should be left.
Account questions are included as well. Users can ask about their Prime or Audible subscriptions, or raise questions about billing and payment issues. The update brings these topics into the same assistant used for lists and delivery changes.
A broader shopping role for Alexa
The new capabilities arrive alongside other AI-focused shopping features Amazon has introduced this year. Those include a shopping assistant and a feature for notifying users about new products and offers.
Together, the additions point to a wider role for Alexa in shopping tasks. The assistant can help users organize what they want to buy, adjust recurring deliveries, and manage certain delivery and account details through requests.
Amazon reports increased use of agentic features
Amazon said the number of people using its agentic features has grown 8x since the start of the year. It also said that over the last 12 months, over 400 million consumers have used Alexa for shopping.
Those figures describe the company’s reported usage, while the new tools add more types of shopping-related requests Alexa can handle. The capabilities span planning purchases with lists, managing subscription timing, updating instructions, and getting help with subscription or payment questions.
